Chery’s first-ever bakkie is coming to South Africa in the first quarter of 2027. Named Grootman by South Africans themselves, it’s an Afrikaans term of respect for someone who has worked hard and can be counted on. That’s exactly the role a bakkie plays here: for work, for business and for the family.

Built on a dedicated hybrid platform, the Grootman pairs a 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine with electric power and four-wheel drive. Preliminary figures point to a combined 350kW and 800Nm, with an electric-only range of up to 100km (NEDC).
